Convection, volume-rendered

A fluid layer heated from below. The 3D Navier-Stokes Boussinesq solver from cad-sim — compiled to WebAssembly — runs live in your browser; above the critical Rayleigh number it goes unstable and organises into convection plumes. The temperature field is ray-marched through a WebGPU volume raycaster. Drag to orbit.

Rayleigh number

Ra_c≈1708: above it, the layer convects.
